LAKELAND, Fla., Nov. 22 (UPI) -- An experienced skydiver who was injured last weekend in Florida while practicing for a record-setting jump has died from those injuries.
Days after receiving serious injuries when his parachute became tangled during a practice jump, Joseph Lambraith died at Florida's Lakeland Regional Medical Center, The (Lakeland, Fla.) Ledger said Wednesday.
The Arizona skydiver had been practicing for a world record skydiving attempt involving 100 total skydivers in a canopy formation last Saturday in Lake Wales, Fla., when his parachute malfunction forced him to lose control and suffer a devastating landing.
Lambraith had reportedly become entangled in another skydiver's canopy during Saturday's jump and when that canopy was released, its added weight forced him to lose control.
Lake Wales firefighter Mike Sykes said Lambraith was immediately hospitalized with a ruptured spleen and aorta, along with a number of other serious injuries.
His death on Tuesday from those injuries marked the first skydiving related death in Lake Wales since 2002, the Ledger reported.
