Teen convicted of hacking computers

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- A 19-year-old man suspected of hacking into U.S. network giant Cisco has been found guilty of accessing college computers in Sweden.

The man, whose name was not released, was just 16 when he hacked his way into "pretty much every college in Sweden," a police official told The Local in a story published Monday.

The man was given a suspended sentence and ordered to pay $28,100 in penalties. His lawyer, Thomas Olsson, said they may appeal.

"There was no link at all established between my client's computer and the computers that were attacked," Olsson said.

Bosse Norgren, chief of the police Internet crime unit in Sweden, called the convicted hacker a "skilled lad" who is "less gifted when it comes to ethics and morals."

Swedish police and the FBI are conducting a joint investigation about whether the man was involved in the attack on Cisco's systems.
