Those killed included the bomber, one of the governor's sons and six security bodyguards, the report said. The blast injured 14 others, including more bodyguards, the report said.

Separately, Xinhua reported five police officers, held captive by Taliban insurgents the past two months, were found hanged from a tree during the weekend in Dihrawud district in southern Afghanistan's Uruzgan province.

"The five were among the 32 policemen who were kidnapped in the Dihrawud district by Taliban insurgents two months ago," a provincial police chief told Xinhua.

The report said there was no immediate response from the Taliban.
