Doctors: Diana not checked for pregnancy

LONDON, Nov. 15 (UPI) -- Doctors testifying at the London inquest into the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, said a pregnancy test was not performed before she died.

Bruno Riou, a doctor at Pitie Salpetriere hospital in Paris, said the princess' chances of survival when she was brought into the hospital after the 1997 crash were "almost nill," The Mirror reported Thursday.

Michael Mansfield, a lawyer for the father of Diana's boyfriend, Dodi Fayed, told the inquest that an abdominal ultrasound test commonly used when patients have multiple injuries may have been capable of detecting a pregnancy.

However, Riou said taking time out from treating the princess to examine the ultrasound images for signs of pregnancy would have been "disastrous." Diana was treated for nearly two hours at the hospital before she was declared dead.

Fayed's father, Mohamed al Fayed has repeatedly voiced the belief that Diana and his son were intentionally killed because the princess was pregnant with Dodi Fayed's child.
