FBI: Bank robber posed as federal agent

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- A man arrested for robbing a San Francisco bank earlier this month did so while pretending to be a federal agent, an FBI agent said.

FBI Special Agent Brian Guy said that when 51-year-old Christopher B. Reynolds robbed a Wells Fargo Bank on Nov. 6, he did so in the guise of U.S. Department of Justice agent, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Wednesday.

Guy said that after allegedly identifying himself as a federal agent, Reynolds discretely informed a bank manager that his suitcase was filled with an explosive device. He then demanded money and told the manager that his partner would detonate the device if the police were contacted, Guy said.

The FBI agent told the Chronicle that after apologizing to the bank manager, Reynolds made off with $9,230 in cash.

Police later arrested Reynolds after tracking a cab the bank robber fled in and the suspect, who was previously convicted and imprisoned for bank robbery, faces additional time behind bars.
