Five people killed in Calif. shooting

TEMECULA, Calif., Nov. 12 (UPI) -- A mass shooting in a quiet Southern California suburb left five people dead in what authorities suspect was a murder-suicide.

Riverside County sheriff's deputies Sunday were called to a house in Temecula where they found two men and two women dead from gunshot wounds. A fifth victim died a few hours later, the Los Angeles Times reported Monday.

Sgt. Dennis Gutierrez, a spokesman for the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said the victims ranged in age from their 20s to their mid-40s. Authorities did not have a motive for the slayings.

"This is a very close-knit community and it's very rare to have something like this happen here," Gutierrez was quoted by the Times as saying.

Temecula, about 50 miles north of San Diego, has not seen a murder since May 2005 when a Riverside County district attorney investigator fatally shot five family members before killing himself.
