MILWAUKEE, Nov. 10 (UPI) -- Midwestern U.S. governors plan to map a regional strategy on dealing with climate change at a two-day meeting in Milwaukee.

The aim of the meeting is to adopt a document, "Midwestern Energy Security and Climate Stewardship Platform," The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported. The governors of 12 states will meet Wednesday and Thursday at the Pfister Hotel.

Matt Canter, a spokesman for Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle, said the aims include reducing greenhouse gas emissions throughout the region and increased use of alternative energy sources. The meeting is to be convened by Doyle, a Democrat, and Gov. Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota, a Republican.

Ten northeastern states and six western ones have already adopted regional pacts.

The keynote speakers include Alex Molinaroli of a Wisconsin company, Johnson Controls Inc., and British Environment Minister Phil Woolas.
