WASHINGTON, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., used a new campaign tool this week -- a new Web site -- to quickly rebut charges her campaign slighted an Iowa waitress.
Clinton's site, The Fact Hub, assured the world that the candidate for the Democratic Party's nomination for president had, in fact, tipped an Iowa Maid-Rite diner waitress, despite Internet and radio reports that she'd stiffed the staff, The New York Times reported Friday.
Clinton's campaign claimed it left a $100 tip -- in cash -- for a $157 bill, which it paid with a credit card. The waitress told NPR "nobody got left a tip." The restaurant manager, however, told the Times a tip was left but he wouldn't say how large it was.
The waitress, Anita Esterday, called the media "nuts" over the incident, the Times said.
"There's kids dying in the war, the price of oil right now -- there's better things in this world to be thinking about than who served Hillary Clinton at Maid-Rite and who got a tip and who didn't get a tip," she told the Times.
