Gov. Richardson releases book on energy

NEW YORK, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson has taken his presidential campaign to the bookstores with a book on energy policy.

"Leading by Example: How We Can Inspire an Energy and Security Revolution," which was released Tuesday, is a 10-year plan for overhauling U.S. energy policy and making the country less dependent on foreign oil, The Albuquerque Journal reported.

"We need to dramatically change direction and shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy," Richardson told reporters during a conference call. "That's what this book is about— it's about leadership and it's about change."

Richardson headed for New York and a book signing on Tuesday after a campaign stop in Ames, Iowa.

The governor served as energy secretary for two years during the administration of President Bill Clinton. But he blames presidents from both parties for the current U.S. energy situation, saying the country has not had any coherent policy.
