ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- Former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has escalated her efforts against President Pervez Musharraf, promising an uprising if changes do not occur.

Bhutto, who recently returned from exile as part of a power-sharing deal with the president, said that a massive uprising would occur if Musharraf did not reverse his imposed emergency rule, the Voice of America said Wednesday.

Along with demanding a reversal of the federal emergency rule, Bhutto has called for the restoration of the country's constitution and for Musharraf to step down as Pakistan's top military leader.

Speaking in the capital city of Islamabad, Bhutto urged citizens across Pakistan to volunteer to be arrested should her supporters' planned demonstration in the city of Rawalpindi on Friday go awry.

The former prime minister said that if she or her supporters are detained by forces loyal to Musharraf, citizens should follow suit to show their opposition to the emergency rule.

"We appeal to the people to find busy marketplaces and court arrest," Bhutto said.
