Suspected killer to wear slain cop's cuffs

PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- Philadelphia police detectives traveled to Miami with a slain officer's handcuffs Tuesday, planning to fasten them on his suspected killer.

John Lewis was arrested early Tuesday in a Miami homeless shelter after a staffer recognized a picture of the suspect on television as the man who arrived there Monday.

The handcuffs are a police tradition, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported. Chuck Cassidy was carrying them last week when he was wounded after interrupting a robbery at a Dunkin' Donuts. He died a day later.

Lewis will be wearing them when he travels back to Philadelphia after an extradition hearing in Florida, the report said.

Hakim Glover, the suspect's cousin, was arrested Tuesday on an obstruction of justice charge. Investigators say that Glover helped Lewis get out of town by buying a bus ticket for him Sunday.
