Kucinich seeks Cheney impeachment

WASHINGTON, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, asked the House of Representatives to impeach Vice President Richard Cheney for his actions before the invasion of Iraq.

However, after Kucinich, a contender for the Democratic presidential nomination, brought up his resolution Tuesday, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer tried to scuttle the measure by tabling it, USA Today reported. Kucinich used a procedural means to introduce the resolution on the floor for a vote.

"Impeachment is not on our agenda. We have some major priorities. We need to focus on those," Hoyer, D-Md., told Fox News.

The bill wasn't tabled outright, but the House voted to send it to the Judiciary Committee.

Kucinich told C-SPAN he introduced the resolution because "it's time for the American people to know who's on the side of the Constitution."

He said his resolution was a "challenge to the administration's efforts to take us into another war," this time in Iran.

In explaining his resolution before the House session, Kucinich said Cheney "is cherry-picking intelligence and selectively using facts in a manner that does not portray the complete picture," Fox News reported.
