SEATTLE, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- A threatening message found in graffiti at the University of Washington has caused tension among the Seattle school's students and officials.
Along with the recent graffiti, the university's law school has recently become the target of several menacing phone calls, prompting additional security measures to by implemented at the legal department's main building, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported Tuesday.
While law students reportedly have been on high alert since the threats began, UW Police Assistant Chief Ray Wittmier attempted to play down such concerns this week.
"There are probably thousands of these threats around the country and they don't materialize," the campus police official said.
Nonetheless, Law School Dean Greg Hicks said Monday's meeting of law students and faculty included complaints that campus police have not been forthcoming with information on the threats.
"I think there was a good bit of nervousness in the air and a real sense of the wish that more information could have been provided by the campus police," Hicks told the newspaper. "But they ultimately have to make the call."
