U.N. chopper crew killed in Liberia crash

GANTA, Liberia, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- The U.N. mission in Liberia said Monday a Russian man listed as missing was killed in a U.N. helicopter crash.

The mission said in a statement that the Friday crash, which claimed the lives of pilot Vitali Drozdov and co-pilot Sergey Kolosov, also killed flight engineer Nikolai Zhorikov.

"The United Nations recognizes and appreciates the valuable contribution made to the work of UNMIL by these three men, who have made the ultimate sacrifice," the mission's statement said.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident.
