TEHRAN, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- Thousands of young Iranians chanted "Death to America" outside the former U.S. embassy in Tehran Sunday -- the 28th anniversary of the hostage crisis.

More than 60 U.S. diplomats, Marines and embassy staff were taken hostage during a takeover of the embassy on Nov. 4, 1979. Thirteen of the hostages were released while the remaining 52 were held in the embassy compound for 444 days.

The crowd chanted "Death to America! Death to Israel!" during Sunday's "Day of National Confrontation

against World Imperialism," Alalam Satellite TV reported.

Iranian Interior Minister Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi told the crowd to resist U.S. attempts to derail Iran's uranium enrichment program, which Iran insists is for energy not weapons.
