BEIRUT, Lebanon, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- The Lebanese army was on high alert following anti-aircraft fire against Israeli fighters, a report said.
The Guardian reported Lebanese anti-aircraft weapons and machine guns last week fired on Israeli aircraft sorties allegedly on reconnaissance missions.
It was the first time the Lebanese army responded to the frequent Israeli over-flights since a cease-fire brought a month long conflict between Hezbollah and Israel to a halt, the report said.
Hassan Nasrallah, secretary-general of Hezbollah, criticized the Lebanese government for its reluctance to deter alleged Israeli violations of Lebanese sovereignty.
"It is a shame that the government, which claims that it promotes Lebanese independence, remains silent in the face of these aerial violations," Ynetnews quoted the Hezbollah leader as saying.
The anti-aircraft response did not result in casualties or damage to Israeli aircraft.
