Iran completes talks with U.N. watchdog

TEHRAN, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- Iran's official news agency said the country completed a round of talks with the United Nations' nuclear watchdog.

The talks with the International Atomic Energy Agency, which was represented at the talks by a delegation led by Deputy Director General Olli Heinonen, were centered on gas centrifuges that are used to enrich uranium, RIA Novosti reported Friday.

The P-1 centrifuges used by the country are vulnerable to breakdowns when used for extended periods at high speeds. The country has been researching the possibility of upgrading to P-2 centrifuges, which are less prone to failure and can enrich uranium to weapons-grade levels.

"We have provided the IAEA with all necessary information and explanations regarding P-1 and P-2 centrifuges," IRNA, Iran's official news agency, quoted the country's deputy chief nuclear negotiator, Javad Vaeedi, as saying.

The U.N. Security Council has imposed two rounds of sanctions on Iran as a result of its uranium enrichment activities.

The countries involved in talks on Iran's nuclear activities -- United States, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany -- postponed a vote on new sanctions against Iran from September to late November.
