Calif. investigates death outside ER

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- State medical regulators are investigating the death of a Los Angeles man who collapsed after waiting in a hospital emergency room for three hours.

The Los Angeles Times said Christopher Jones, 33, arrived at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center in Sylmar, Calif., Sunday complaining of chest pains. After waiting for more than three hours and not receiving any treatment, Jones walked outside and collapsed on the pavement.

The newspaper said the death is the latest case of questionable patient care delivered at the public hospital, which is run by the county.

The nurse who initially assessed Jones was placed on administrative leave, the newspaper said.
