WARSAW, Poland, Oct. 31 (UPI) -- Lech Walesa, former Polish president and Solidarity leader, said he is enthusiastic about becoming Poland’s ambassador or envoy-at-large.
Donald Tusk, whose liberal, pro-EU Civic Platform won Poland’s parliamentary elections, planned to appoint Walesa the ambassador in Washington, the Polish daily Metro reported Wednesday.
Tusk, expected to be declared the prime minister-designate next week, said if Walesa turned down his offer to become the ambassador to the United States, he would propose to appoint him as the new Polish government’s envoy accompanying the prime minister on foreign visits.
Walesa told Metro he had received with enthusiasm Tusk’s proposal.
Walesa, whose Solidarity movement helped in overthrowing the Polish communist regime in 1989, said he has always been eager to assist authorities with his international experience, Polish Radio said.
