NEW YORK, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- Tens of thousands demonstrated against the Iraq War Saturday, the fifth anniversary of the U.S. Senate vote authorizing President George W. Bush to use force.

Rallies and marches were planned in 11 major cities and several dozen smaller ones, organizers said. They included New York, Chicago and San Francisco.

In New York, United for Peace and Justice said tens of thousands of people participated, NY1, a local cable-news channel, reported. They marched from Greenwich Village to Foley Square, near the federal courthouse and federal building in lower Manhattan, where a peace fair was held.

In Chicago, thousands of people joined a march book-ended by rallies, NBC 3 said.

Other marches were held in Seattle; Fort Lauderdale and Orlando, Fla; Boston; New Orleans; Philadelphia; Chattanooga and Jonesborough, Tenn.; Salt Lake City; Denver; and Rochester, N.Y.
