LONDON, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- A former volunteer firefighter, testifying at a British inquest Thursday, described trying to help Princess Diana after the Paris car crash that killed her.

Damian Dalby, who testified by video link from Paris, said he heard Diana say "Oh my God" several times, The Daily Mail reported.

Dalby and his brother, Sebastien Pennequin, were with several friends when they arrived at the scene immediately after the crash in an underpass. Earlier, Pennequin said he helped police try to push photographers away from the car.

The Aug. 31, 1997, crash killed Diana's companion, Dodi Fayed, and the driver, Henri Paul. Diana, who suffered massive internal injuries, died a few hours later at a Paris hospital, while Trevor Rees-Jones, Fayed's bodyguard, survived.

Dalby said photographers were taking pictures when he reached the Mercedes. But he said one photographer standing by the open rear door did not hinder him when he tried to assist the occupants of the car.
