AUGUSTA, Ga., Oct. 25 (UPI) -- A Georgia woman and her husband have been charged with starving her blind and deaf sister to death.

Investigators said Christine Baxter, 30, weighed only 46 pounds when police found her unconscious outside her sister's home in Augusta last weekend, WSBT-TV in Atlanta reported. Jeanne and Buel Peterson have been indicted on a manslaughter charge.

The Petersons were reportedly reluctant to allow police to enter their house. When officers did get in, they found the dwelling choked with cobwebs and cockroaches, with rotting food and feces from a number of animals, including a pot-bellied pig, on the floor.

Baxter, who could not feed herself, went into her sister's care after their mother died.

"Once we entered the residence, we saw what tragic, horrible conditions that the subject had spent the remainder of her life," said Sgt. Richard Roundtree of the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.
