
KHARTOUM, Sudan, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's special representative for Sudan has traveled to Khartoum, the capital of Sudan, to meet with officials.
Ashraf Jahangir Qazi, a Pakistani national who also serves as head of the U.N. mission in Sudan, is scheduled for meetings with Sudanese President Omar Al Bashir, First Vice President and President of the Government of Southern Sudan Salva Kiir, and senior officials with the Government of National Unity and the Government of Southern Sudan, the U.N. News Service reported Tuesday.
The meetings come ahead of planned talks on the Darfur conflict scheduled for Saturday in Libya.
Qazi was appointed special representative for Sudan last month after serving as the secretary-general's special representative for Iraq since 2004.
