Mistrial in Holy Land Foundation trial

DALLAS, Oct. 22 (UPI) -- A mistrial was declared Monday in the trial of leaders of a Texas foundation accused of financing terrorism.

A federal judge in Dallas declared the mistrial after jurors were unable to reach a unanimous verdict after more than a month on most of the counts against five defendants connected to the Holy Land Foundation.

The Dallas Morning News said one defendant was acquitted on the charges stemming from funds allegedly provided to groups controlled by Hamas. Defense attorneys contend Holy Land Foundation did not knowingly contribute money to any group with terrorist ties.

Federal prosecutors said they would retry the case.
