Mother charged with killing her baby

SPRING LAKE, N.C., Oct. 21 (UPI) -- A Spring Lake, N.C., woman was arrested for killing her infant daughter the day the father returned from Iraq.

Harnett County Sheriff arrested Johni Michelle Heuser, 25, on a charge of first-degree murder after investigators found 11-month-old Harmony Creech hidden in the woman’s attic, the Raleigh (N.C.) News & Observer reported Sunday.

The sheriff’s office said the girl had been dead for three or four weeks.

Police issued an Amber Alert Friday after relatives reported the girl missing along with a pink sheet and several bibs.

Heuser told investigators Saturday she found the baby dead in her crib and hid the body in her attic because she was afraid, the newspaper said.

The girl’s father, Robert Earl Creech III, returned from a 15-month tour in Iraq Friday to see Harmony, whom he had not since January.
