WASHINGTON, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- Proposed sex-education guidelines for the Washington public schools aim to teach students in the nation's capital about homosexuality.

The District of Columbia board of education has scheduled a Nov. 28 hearing on the revised guidelines, The Washington Times reported. The board is scheduled to vote in December.

Under the guidelines, sixth-grade students will learn that all people have "sexual feelings and the need for love, affection and physical intimacy." In the eighth, they will be taught that some people are sexually attracted to those of the same sex.

"You want the standards to also take into account the opinions, the expectations and the sound facts from the community," said John Stokes, spokesman for the Office of the State Superintendent of Education.

A judge refused this month to block implementation of the guidelines.
