KAMPALA, Uganda, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- Clashes in Uganda between leaders of the Lord’s Resistance Army were reported as U.N. officials met to discuss Uganda rebels in eastern Congo.

Fighting broke out last week Thursday between forces loyal to LRA leader Joseph Kony and forces loyal to his deputy Vincent Otti. The dispute was reportedly over peace negotiations and the financial settlement the LRA agreed to in order to take part in the process.

Officials involved in the peace process traveled from Kenya to mediate in the dispute, Kampala’s New Vision is reporting.

Gen. Aronda Nyakairima, leader of the Uganda Peoples' Defense Forces, met with U.N. officials in eastern Congo to discuss coordination efforts against Uganda rebels operating from the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Nyakairima emphasized the UPFD forces wouldn't enter eastern DRC, New Vision reported.
