A series of four explosions were reported Thursday night near the Aden Adde International Airport after militias attacked a police vehicle with hand grenades, Shabelle news reported.

In the eastern Somalia, six militants from forces loyal to the autonomous Puntland region died in a gun fight between neighboring forces in the town of Bosaso.

The conflict erupted after Puntland forces raided suspected militant strongholds in the Qas and Raaxo neighborhoods.

Local police officials told Shabelle correspondents the militia had regrouped in the region following a U.S. air strike in early June.

A local police commissioner was killed in the Karan district of Mogadishu after armed men attacked the commissioner at a local tax collection center, killing two of his bodyguards as well.

The attackers, who are suspected of being involved in a larger plot targeting government officials, escaped in a mini-bus.
