WASHINGTON, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- U.S. Sen. John Warner, R-Va., was discharged from a Virginia hospital Wednesday and headed home for a short recuperation from his recent surgery.
Warner's chief of staff, Carter Cornick, told the Virginian-Pilot that while the senator would work the remainder of the day from his home in Alexandria, Va., he would be back in Washington Thursday.
Warner's release from the hospital comes one day after the 80-year-old politician underwent a surgical procedure to repair "a minor aperture" in his femoral artery.
The senator's admission to the Northern Virginia hospital on Tuesday came nearly two weeks after he had been hospitalized for a non-surgical procedure involving his heart.
The Virginian-Pilot said that surgical procedure on Oct. 3 involved doctors using a catheter to perform "ablation therapy" on his heart.
Cornick said that doctors successfully repaired an irregular rhythm of the senator's heart by delivering an electrical charge from the catheter.
