TEL AVIV, Israel, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- The Israeli government and Hezbollah agreed on the details of a prisoner exchange, as each side questioned the other's motives, Haaretz reported Tuesday.

The exchange involves Israeli Army soldiers Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev, whose capture sparked a 34-day conflict in July 2006.

Negotiations also involved discussions about the fate of Israeli Air Force Capt. Ron Arad, who was shot down over Lebanon Oct. 16, 1986. Hezbollah Monday released information regarding Arad in exchange for the release of a Hezbollah member and the bodies of two others, Haaretz said.

Israeli officials reportedly indicated they would consider the release of nine Lebanese and several other Palestinian prisoners in Israeli custody.

Israel is interpreting Hezbollah’s willingness to negotiate as a political campaign aimed at gaining the sympathy of the Lebanese. Hezbollah’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, insists the actions are humanitarian.

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert accused Hezbollah of playing on “the feelings and emotions of Israeli society."
