BERLIN, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- Germany plans to go forward with the release of two men imprisoned for the 1992 killing of three Iranian-Kurdish leaders.
The Israeli government has urged that the freedom of Kazem Darabi, an Iranian convicted of organizing the assassination in a Berlin cafe, and his Lebanese accomplice Abbas Rhayel be traded for information about a missing Israeli pilot. But Monika Harms, the chief federal prosecutor, said that there is no legal reason to keep Darabi in prison for longer than 15 years, Deutsche Welle reported.
The Israeli fighter jet pilot, Ron Arad, was shot down over Lebanon in 1986, and his fate remains a mystery. Israeli authorities reportedly believe that Hezbollah has information on Arad.
Darabi and Rhayel are to be deported if they are released in December.
