ZAGREB, Croatia, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- Croatian President Stjepan Mesic on Wednesday set parliamentary elections for Nov. 25.

The ruling center-right Croatian Democratic Union, or HDZ, and the leading opposition leftist Social-Democratic Party, SDP, are expected to wage a close contest for control of the one-chamber parliament of 160 deputies.
Public polls have indicated neither HDZ nor SDP would win a clear victory to form a Cabinet without a coalition with minor parties.
