NEW YORK, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- A fraternity at St. John’s University in New York has been suspended after an incident in which a pledge fainted from dehydration and was hospitalized.

The student was allegedly forced to carry heavy objects and kneel for hours at a time as part of the Sigma Chi Upsilon hazing process, resulting in the hospitalization and possible spleen injury, the New York Daily News reported Sunday.

Other pledges were unable to complete the hazing tasks, the newspaper said, and it unclear whether alcohol was involved.

Police are investigating the incident but have yet to file any charges, the newspaper said.
