CONCORD, N.H., Oct. 15 (UPI) -- A new poll showed presidential hopeful Sen. Hillary Clinton with a 21-point lead over Democratic rival Sen. Barack Obama in the New Hampshire primary.
"It's not soft name recognition. It's real," Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist Poll said of Clinton's support.
In the poll, Clinton, D-N.Y., had 41 percen support, Obama, D-Ill., 20 percent and forfmer U.S. Sen. John Edwards, D-N.C., 11 percent, USA Today reported Monday.
On the Republican side, the poll of likely primary voters showed former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney with 26 percent, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani with 20 percent, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., with 17 percent and former Sen. Fred Thompson, R-Tenn., with 10 percent.
"The good news in this for McCain is that he's definitely in the thick of things, despite having had a weak six months," Miringoff said, noting those interviewed for the poll suggested McCain's had the firmest support among GOP rivals while Romney had the softest.
The poll of 1,512 likely New Hampshire voters was conducted Oct. 4-9 with a margin of error of 5 points on the Democratic side and 5.5 points on the Republican side.
