CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Oct. 15 (UPI) -- Harvard University's 28th president was sworn in with a three centuries-old ceremony replete with keys, seals and charter in Cambridge, Mass.

Drew G. Faust’s inauguration Friday was marked by rain and thunderous applause as former Harvard President Lawrence H. Summers presented his successor with a set of Harvard seals, Harvard's Crimson reported Monday.

“I think it’s a great day for the University," Summers said.

Guests from 220 academic institutions in countries as far away as China converged on the rain-soaked campus with umbrellas, academic gowns and a variety of hoods.

“I think the academic garb is a little bit like adult Halloween,” said Professor Graham T. Allison Jr., Harvard class of 1962, who wore a hood of rabbit fur.
