ROGERS, Ark., Oct. 15 (UPI) -- President George Bush chided the U.S. Congress Monday, telling an Arkansas audience it was "fixin' to get stuck with" a tax increase unless he uses his veto.
"The worst thing we could do is run up taxes as this economy is growing," Bush told a gathering of business officials at the John Q. Hammonds Convention Center in Rogers, Ark. "That's the worst thing that we could do to the small business owner -- change the depreciation schedules or raise the individual rates, particularly if you're a Subchapter S or a limited partnership."
He said he'd use his veto pen on any budget bill "if it doesn't meet needs as far as I'm concerned."
Bush chastised Congress for "(making) promises about how they're going to be wise about what they're going to do with your money and get bills to my desk and not being able to perform."
He said he was looking forward to returning to Washington to remind lawmakers that not "one bill has come out of the United States Congress that appropriates your taxpayers' money. "
