BAGHDAD, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Insurgent attacks targeting Shiite Muslims killed 24 on the second day of the Eid al-Fitr festival Sunday, Iraqi authorities said.

In Samarra, north of Baghdad, a car bomb detonated outside a mosque then a gunfight broke out between gunmen and Iraqi forces, CNN reported. At least 10 civilians and eight security officers were killed by the explosion and the ensuing gunfight, and 37 were wounded.

Another bomb killed at least six people and injured nine others on Baghdad minibus carrying Shiite pilgrims to the Imam Musa-al-Kadhim shrine.

Security officers also discovered and dismantled two other bombs planted around the city.

A suicide car bomb attack also killed four Iraqi commandos Saturday.
