LUDHIANA, India, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Six people were killed and about 30 injured in a bomb attack on an Indian movie theater Sunday.

The device exploded at about 9 p.m. in the Shringar Cinema hall in Ludhiana, a town of about 1.4 million in Punjab state, TopNews.com reported. The 500-seat theater was filled to capacity because of the Muslim holiday Eid al-Fitr.

Punjabi police were investigating the crime scene, and a forensic team is en route, authorities said.

A spokesman for the Punjabi government said it had tightened security across the state, and decried the attack as an attempt to create terror.

A Thursday blast killed two and injured 17 people, TopNews said.
