EDMONTON, Alberta, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- A Canadian man suspected of killing a Mountie surrendered after a seven-hour standoff with police in Edmonton, Alberta.

Emrah Bulatci, 23, was captured Saturday evening, a week after he allegedly gunned down Royal Canadian Mounted Police Officer Christopher Worden, while Worden was responding alone to a call from a public housing unit, the CanWest News Service reported Sunday.

The standoff began around 9 a.m. when police moved into the South Callingwood neighborhood of Edmonton, CanWest said, after a local elementary school was placed on lockdown.

Police searched another Edmonton neighborhood Thursday as part of the weeklong manhunt.
