Czech mother declines to 'unswap' babies

TREBIC, Czech Republic, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Two Czech couples said they aren't yet able to swap babies just one week after learning the infants were switched shortly after birth 10 months ago.

Overwhelmed with emotions, the two couples agreed to family counseling at a local social center in the southeastern Czech town of Trebic and will care together for the two babies at least by their first birthday Dec. 9, the British Daily Telegraph reported Thursday.

Jaroslava Trojanova, a 25-year-old factory worker, insisted she wouldn't be able to give away the baby she cared for the past 10 months and she considers her own daughter.

The four parents met for the first time last week, 10 months after their babies were mixed up by staff in the Trebic hospital. The babies were born within 18 minutes the same day.

The couples became suspicious something went wrong with their babies soon after they were born but they had to wait for DNA tests and a formal inquiry to establish their daughters had been switched.
