MOSCOW, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Tuesday the United States would promote stability by cooperating with Russia on its missile shield.

Talks are scheduled in Moscow Friday and Saturday, RIA Novosti reported. Russia has proposed the United States use Russian radar installations instead of installing equipment for its missile shield in Czechoslovakia and Poland.

"We expect that this response will help us strengthen strategic stability instead of creating new risks in this sphere," Lavrov said.

The agenda for the talks also includes the treaty on reduction in Soviet-era arms.
