BRUSSELS, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- A 34-year-old Pole was declared Europe’s best truck driver at a ceremony in Brussels after winning a contest of national champions from 27 EU countries.
Trucker Marek Szerenos, the winner of the Young European Truck Driver contest aimed at promoting road safety, has a small company of about five vehicles that transport construction materials from Poland to Russia, Polish Radio said Wednesday.
Sweden’s Scania truck maker organized the contest in cooperation with the International Road Union and the European Commission.
Truck driver contests are being organized in 42 countries worldwide, with competing drivers having to pass theoretical tests and demonstrate road driving skills.
