Diana inquest jury wraps up visit to Paris

PARIS, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- The British jury hearing the inquest into the death of Princess Diana returned to England Tuesday after two days in Paris examining the fateful scene.

The 11-member panel wrapped up their visit to the French capital Tuesday morning by retracing the last steps of Diana, her boyfriend Dodi Fayed and driver Henri Paul at the posh Ritz hotel, the Times of London said.

All three were killed in 1997 when the speeding Mercedes driven by an allegedly tipsy Paul crashed in a tunnel, reputedly with paparazzi in hot pursuit. Diana’s bodyguard was seriously injured.

The role of the photographers has been a controversy in the long-running story, however, there has been more sinister tabloid speculation that the British royal family set up the accident due to the divorced Diana’s relationship with Fayed.

The Times said the inquest would last another six months. The jury will be back at work in London Wednesday.
