20-year-old sailors arm severed by train

CHICAGO, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- A Chicago commuter train severed the right arm of a California sailor who said he had been assaulted, robbed and thrown on the tracks.

Brandon Garrison, 20, of Red Bluff, Calif., and stationed at Great Lakes Naval Training Center used a necktie to stave off the bleeding from the severed limb and walked back to the naval base for help, WMAQ-TV, Chicago, reported.

Garrison said two men assaulted, robbed, and threw him on the tracks at the Great Lakes train station Sunday evening.

WMAQ-TV reports investigators were still examining the scene Monday.

"The physical evidence does not support the scenario as initially presented," a police official said.

Garrison was in fair condition at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, the Chicago Tribune reported.
