NEW YORK, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Long Island, N.Y., police searched for the person behind letters containing pink swastikas sent to Jewish families.
Nassau County (N.Y.) Detective Sgt. Anthony Repalone told the New York Post the letters, which contained a copy of a recent article about the arrest of two youths for painting swastikas on a synagogue in Plandome, N.Y., were sent to at least nine local families.
What made the event even more unusual was that the envelopes contained automated address labels, the Post reported Thursday.
On each article was a hand-drawn pink swastika, Repalone said. He added that eight of the nine families "are of Jewish heritage."
An investigation was launched to see if the names were picked at random from the phone book or somehow connected.
