DENVER, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Denver officials say that millions of dollars must be spent in a hurry to fix up deteriorating parks and public spaces.
The majority of the money from a $93.6 million bond issue would go to that work, The Rocky Mountain News reported. Some, a bit over $30 million, would be earmarked for two new recreation centers in areas officials say are underserved and putting the finishing touches on a new park.
About $10 million would be devoted to repairing the historic structures in the Civic Center. Those include the Greek Theater, where the stonework is in such bad shape that the stage has collapsed in places.
"The park is one of the most significant spaces in Denver," said Helen Kuykendall, project manager for the civic center. "The monuments need the investment or we're going to lose them."
Voters are being asked to approve the bond issue on Nov. 6.
