FALLS CHURCH, Va., Oct. 3 (UPI) -- U.S. Sen. John Warner, R-Va., was in a Virginia hospital Wednesday being tested and treated for a rapid and irregular heartbeat.
Warner, 80, on Tuesday night went to the Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., for what his chief of staff, Carter Cornick, told The Virginian-Pilot was a "routine procedure" for atrial fibrillation.
He said the fifth-term senator was scheduled for more treatment Wednesday.
A statement released by Warner's office late Tuesday said his doctors "fully anticipate that Senator Warner will be home this weekend and back to work next week."
On Aug. 31, Warner announced he would not seek re-election next year and said at the time he was in good health.
Warner is a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and its former chairman.
