Nurse admits stealing patient's wallet

LIVERPOOL, England, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- A British nurse has admitted stealing a wallet from a dying World War II veteran while he was unconscious.

Prosecutors said Veronica Harold used a cash card belonging to Albert Davies, 83, to pay her telephone bill. The wallet was taken from a locker at Fazakerley Hospital in Liverpool, The Times of London said Wednesday.

The 47-year-old nurse pleaded guilty to theft and fraud. Her attorney, Phil Mitchell, said Harold acknowledged she "made the biggest mistake of her life."

Davies, who had been honored for bravery during the D-Day landings, was admitted to the hospital in July. He died of pneumonia ten days later, the newspaper said.
