PITTSBURGH, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- A black baby doll bearing a racist epithet was found hanging in a Pittsburgh bus garage.
Police are investigating, Bob Grove, a spokesman for the Port Authority said. If the person who hung the doll is found, he or she will be prosecuted.
The doll was hanging in a maintenance area when early shift employees arrived between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. Monday, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. Patrick McMahon, president and business agent of the union representing Port Authority employees, said it was probably put there by someone who works at the garage because the entrance has security.
"This is upsetting, just a very upsetting thing. It's so unfortunate that, in today's world, we have people who are so ugly and small-minded," he said. "To me, there is no room for that kind of nonsense."
There have been other recent episodes involving the hanging of racist symbols. In Jena, La., white students hung nooses from a tree after black students began sitting there, while in Hempstead, N.Y., a noose was found in a police locker room.
