GOP plans careful Clinton attacks

WASHINGTON, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Republican strategists said they plan to step up attacks against Sen. Hillary Clinton believing she will be the Democratic presidential nominee.

A leading organizer of the Stop Her Now political committee told The Hill, a Washington newspaper, that his group planned to spend at least $500,000 before the February primaries opposing Clinton's White House bid.

Richard Collins, a wealth Texas businessman and organizer of the committee, told The Hill the strategy and tactics for opposing the senator from New York are far more important than the amount of money his group plans to spend.

Collins says Stop Her Now will use humor in its attacks against Clinton in an effort to appeal to swing voters.

Republicans have told The Hill they have to be careful not to go too far in their attacks against Clinton.

"You can't go after a woman candidate the way you can go after a guy," conservative leader Paul Weyrich, chairman of the Free Congress Foundation, said. "It's very, very difficult to campaign against a woman candidate."
